The crew[dad]
Chris has a life long love of boats buying his first at the age of 14 from the back of the local boat yard .he went on to escape school to work on the fishing boats out of Plymouth and on the local fish quay going on to work in the local chandlers & boatyards up the river Tamar . He has always had boats that needed love and learnt over the years how to fix almost anything himself and self taught in most areas . [mum] Anna-Marie has spent alot of time on the water from her younger years helping her dad salmon fish on the banks of the river Tamar to going angling out to sea on his fishing boat . Jake [10] Has been interested in boats from an eirly age taking his first trip up the river aged aprox 6mth . He has done really well in the local sailing club and is very confident on the water on his own no matter what the weather. Adam [7] Enjoys getting afloat and spends just as much time in the water as he does on it . can and will sail his dingy him self although prefers to go with someone else http://www.p2s-prepared2survive.co.uk

On the whim and on a shoestring
The purchase of Roys Joy was totally on the whim , after looking at boats to buy and trying to find a good boat within our budget for over 2 years but not finding what we were looking for we spotted an ad that stood out .
We looked at the pics and looked at the survey she looked great but sounded poor we thought we had to view her to see for ourselves We booked a viewing and seen the odd bit of urgent work needed but nothing major [as she had been sat untouched on her berth for the last 24 months] but we fell in love we put in our offer which was accepted the very next day, she was ours and the what have we done thoughts set in. With all our boats we have a shoestring budget and have to stick to it no matter what . S/V Roys Joy was built in 1994 for captain Roy Bilton - he was the previous owner and the only other owner until us . |
This is what the interior was like when we viewed her - yes there is some work to do mainly in the aft cabin but none is serious or costly just time consuming .
There are 2 bulkheads that need replacement but have secondary ones behind so no major rush to do these , the main problems is the wheelhouse doors need work to seal as they are the main cause letting water in and damaging the interior . Again not costly but very time consuming and on the urgent list The only real must do work we need to carry out is to replace the shaft seal that has ballooned and is stopping us from being able to motor her at present and overhaul the engine - replace service parts and fluids etc . |
